Here at Hervey Bays' Fraser Escape Backpackers & 4x4 Tours we offer what we believe to be the best value adventure tours on Fraser Island - Queensland. The budget conscious traveler who wants value-for-money will be impressed with our tour packages and budget accommodation. Below is a suggested itinerary.

Day 1

Enjoy a 30 minute cruise across the Great Sandy Straits, with top deck views for miles. Within 10 minutes of disembarking you are among Fraser Island's most splendid rainforest.

A stop at Central Station is a must and we suggest following the signs for a walk alongside Wanggoolba Creek with its crystal waters and special vegetation - dense palms, unique ferns and forest giants that only grow on Fraser Island. Continuing on you will find Basin Lake

We suggest you then drive to beautiful Lake McKenzie for lunch and a swim. The sand is so pure here that some people use it to clean their jewellery and watch faces.

After lunch you will need to collect an armful of wood from near the toilets and fill all your water bottles.

As a courtesy to other campers, if you are going to make noise then camp on the beach.

Drive north along the beach to Eurong Resort then drive a further 1.6 Kilometres to your camp-site for the night.

Day 2

After breakfast, drive to Happy Valley to replenish supplies of ice, drinks etc then on to Eli Creek where the water flows so fast it will carry you from the forest to the beach. Do not forget to use low 4WD.

Drive to the famous wreck of the Maheno then on to the Pinicals and coloured sands.

By this time you may be hungry so call in at Dundabarra Camp Ground for lunch. After lunch remember to collect firewood and fill your water bottles then drive to Indian Head to set up camp for the night.

Before settling in for the night visit the headland and the Champagne Pools.

Day 3

On this last day of your Fraser Island adventure you should leave camp by 9:00am and stop off at Dunabarra Camp to wash up if you need to then visit Lake Wabby (1 hour in - 1 hour out) then drive down to the barge stopping in at Lake McKenzie for a swim if time permits.

Driving time, depending on conditions and tides, from Lake Wabby to the barge is approximately 1.5 hours. Do not be late for the barge as they never wait.

Access to some lakes and sections of the beach may change depending on tides and conditions.
